Super Stickman Golf
Super Stickman Golf is a 2D golf game that’s really easy to pick up and play, with tons of fantastical themed courses, interesting power-ups, and excellent physics-based gameplay.Rather than your standard 3D layout seen in many golf games, Super Stickman Golf offers up a 2D platform experience. The courses often have multiple levels you’ll need to reach and obstacles you’ll need to avoid to finally get on the green.Overall, with over 260 holes to play across several themed courses, unique obstacles, arcade elements, and local and online multiplayer, Super Stick Man Golf has plenty to offer any arcade golf fan.You play the game as the titular Super Stickman, with three course packs.Classic offers 16 beginner courses, Super includes eight intermediate courses, and Expansion sports five painfully advanced courses from which to choose. Each course includes nine holes. So right from the start, there’s a lot of gameplay packed into Super Stickman Golf.Only one course in each pack is unlocked at the start. You unlock additional courses by playing well; if you meet or beat par on the previous course, you unlock the next.Alternatively, you can spend your hard-earned cash on in-app purchases to unlock some or all of the other courses and bonuses, but that feels dirty to me.When you select a course—say, The Cliffs, par 47—you first choose whether you want to play all nine holes or practice just one of them.If you choose to play the full nine, you then get to load up your golfbag with power-ups.These include Mulligan, which lets you retry a laughably errant shot, or Sticky Ball, which lets your ball temporarily stick to walls. As with the courses, you’ll need to unlock the power-ups through various achievements.Once you’ve stocked your golf bag, you’re ready to play. You adjust your shot’s trajectory using large virtual buttons, and then tap the Go circle when you’re satisfied. That triggers the power meter control; you tap a second time to choose the level you’re after, and then it’s fire in the hole.Or, more preferably, your golf ball. The beauty of this game is in the simplicity it offers. The controls are all so easy that you can actually be pretty good at the game in a short amount of time.To me, the whole app experience seems like an old school Nintendo game: from the catchy, silly background music, to the extremely simple and “stick-like” graphics.Think of this as the Excitebike of apps. The game itself is really fun and addicting. There is something about its simple gameplay that keeps you coming back for more. It’s one of those games you will stay up playing at night- “just one more level” you’ll tell yourself- an hour later, you’re still playing.Do yourself a favor and get this game now.The amount of content you get for a mere dollar is amazing.

WSJ – The Wall Street Journal

We are very lucky to live in a world where all kinds of information are available at the palm of your hand. When I say the palm of your hand, I mean literally, well, at least if you own an iPhone. There are a lot of iPhone apps that make sure that you always be in touch with the latest news in all fields of life. Today we introduce you to perhaps one of the most used iPhone apps, WSJ – The Wall Street Journal. WSJ offers equal doses of appreciated polish and unfinished features. For instance, the app will re-open to any article you may have beenreading the last time you quit. Itsupports landscape mode, and a save button allows you to read articlesoffline. For those who want faster access to their favorite sections, the Editbutton at the top of the More section works much like it does in Apple’siPod app. Tap it, and you can choose which buttons appear in the bottomtoolbar simply by dragging and dropping new sections down there. All things considered, it’s nice to see WSJ officially arrive for iPhoneand iPod touch users, as the app is pretty full-featured. Aslong as some of these initial quirks are addressed in an update or two, this willbe another great option for getting your news fix on the go.

NPR News

If you regularly listen to National Public Radio or its podcast, the NPR News app will be a hit with you. Not surprisingly, the NPR News app focuses on radio rather than text. There are print articles, but the true value in this app lies in itsradio coverage. NPR News includes the terrific Hourly Newscast, afive-minute overview of the latest headlines that you can listen towhile you browse the rest of the news. The NPR iPhone app also provides access to broadcasts from popular NPRshows, including All Things Considered, Morning Edition and Car Talk. Ared “on air” icon appears next to shows that are currently broadcasting,so you can stream these live. For shows not currently airing, you canlisten to individual segments from the last few shows. As you wouldexpect from NPR, the quality is excellent. Buffering is fast and smoothover Wi-Fi, and while segments take a little longer to load over EDGE or 3G, there are no major interruptions.  Some sections are updated pretty infrequently – the health and science sections only get about one new article each day.But since nothing is perfect, we should expect some kind of setbacks while using this app. There is nothing serious, which I’m sure it’s going to be improved in future versions of NPR News.

Press Reader

If you are a newspaper freak, and you simply have to read every single newspaper that comes out in your town then this is the perfect app for you. But why stop at your town, why not the country, and when we are at that, why not the world? -This app has it all. PressReader is an iPhone and iPad app from NewsPaper Direct Inc. thatlets you buy and read daily newspapers from around the world in full PDFformat. Think of it as a TiVo for newspapers. You can find andinstantly download over 1,500 newspapers from 90 countries and 47languages. The newspapers cost about 99 cents per issue, and there isalso an option to subscribe to the newspapers of your choice to havethem delivered to you automatically. When you get started with thePressReader app you get your first 7 issues for free, which is a greatway to try out the features of the app. The app has 4 tabs: 1) My Library where you have a list of all thepublications you’ve purchased. Tap “Select Title” to browse papers byCountry or by Language. Unfortunately United States is all the way onthe bottom of the list, so you have to scroll down each time. Anothergreat feature in PressReader is its ability to store you oldernewspapers. You can’t do text based searches on the content of yournewspapers. 2) Top Stories – lists an RSS feed reader style list of the headlinesfrom various publications. Tap any headline to read the full story. 3) Search – here is where you can find stories by keyword, and narrowthem down by language and newspapers. The search results here again havethe very slow to respond web based experience, like the Top Storiessection. 4) Settings – this is where you enter your PressDisplay accountinformation and authorize yourself for downloads after your 7 freeissues have been completed. So now you can stay informed everywhere you go without tripping over the papers around you.

CNN For iPhone

Lately I’ve been trying to reflexively dismiss single-source news apps, since they’re usually not much more than a repackaged mobile site. CNN’s Mobile, with push, VOD and live newscasts, is much, much more—but don’t expect to get it for free, since anything for having requires a certain amount of money out of your pocket. This application’s text content is interestingly formated into swipeable panels, which are then organised into categories. It also allows you to save your favrite stories for a further offline reading, and select your most interesting subjects so you can create personalized news feeds from CNN’s stories. If you’re particularly reportorial, there’s also a panel for iReport submissions—3GS users can upload video, and everyone can upload stories and photos. The newsreading and reporting functions look fine, but he app doesn’t really start to shine until it starts to stream: Video is available in both VOD and live flavors, the first of which is organized in a catalog, and the second of which jumps in and out of service at the whim of CNN. Here’s the theory: Users sit tight with their text content and old clips of Anderson Cooper interviewing panda cubs, or whatever he does, until NEWS BREAKS: Anderson has been mauled by mother panda. This is huge. You get a push notification that says, “Hey, CNN’s live right now,” which means that the station’s content is streamed over Wi-Fi, 3G or EDGE. And, you watch. This is mainly everything you need to know about this app, and how it works. The rest is really up to you, but I you wanted my oppinion, then I definitely reccomend this.
