IBM shared its experience in adopting Apple Macs instead of Windows-machines for its employees. This was in mid-2015. Today, IBM has approximately 90 000 Macs, including desktop computers and laptops. Amazingly, these Macs can only be supported by five admins.
IBM company will save $543 over a period of four years. This amount would have been spent on PC-support.
But is it too expensive and does it overload IT? No. IBM found that PCs are three times more expensive than their counterparts and require twice as many support calls. IBM can save anywhere from $273 to $543 per Apple Mac, depending on which model, over a 4-year lifespan, compared with a PC. Previn stated that this is the best pricing we have ever received from Microsoft. Multiply this number by the 100,000+ Macs IBM expects it to deploy by the end of 2011, and you’ll see some serious savings .>>.
IMB employees are expressing their enthusiasm for Apple Macs, with 73 percent saying they would like their next Mac to be an Apple Mac. IBM is rapidly deploying 1,300 Macs per week to meet demand. Jamf and Apple’s Device Enrollment Program are used to quickly set up new users.
Jamf conference highlighted the fact that Apple products have a place in schools and healthcare, in addition to IBM’s triumphant success. Students in La Crosse, Wisconsin use iPads and MacBooks to meet their unique learning needs.
The University of California, San Diego will install iPads and Apple TVs in 245 patient rooms at Jacobs Medical Center. This will make it easier for patients and their doctors to access their medical records, receive medication reminders, control lighting, blinds, and temperature.
