AWS-Based MongoDB Service gets Live Migrations, More MongoDB Inc. updated its offering with a new live migrating capability and other improvements a month after it announced a free tier of the MongoDB Atlas service hosted in the Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS). MongoDB, a document-oriented NoSQL Database, consistently ranks high in popularity reports for this database niche (like here), and all databases (like there). The MongoDB Atlas Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) is available on the AWS Marketplace, which states: “MongoDB Atlas provides all of the features of MongoDB, without all of the operational heavy lifting, all through a pay-as-you-go model billed on an hourly basis, enabling you to focus on what you do best.” MongoMirror is a tool that allows you to migrate existing MongoDB databases to the AWS cloud. MongoDB Inc. also announced a free tier last month for Atlas. The company stated that Atlas now has this migration functionality. Sahir Azam, a company spokesman, said that live migration allowed them to automate the import from any MongoDB 3.0+ replication set into MongoDB Atlas. It works by performing an initial sync of a source and target database in Atlas and then tailing your source oplog to keep Atlas in sync. This will allow you to receive live updates from your application. The service also has other improvements:
